Migos is an American hip hop group from Gwinnett County, Georgia, founded in 2009. The group comprises of three members, known by their stage names Quavo, Takeoff and Offset. Migos released their commercial debut single “Versace”, in 2013, taken from their mixtape Y.R.N. (Young Rich Niggas). They went on to release several successful singles, such as “Fight Night” in 2014, “Look at My Dab” in 2015 and a very hit single which topped the charts “Bad and Boujee” last year in 2016.
Who is Quavo of the Migos
Quavo is one of the three members of the band, Migos. Quavious Keyate Marshall is his real name while he is known as Quavo generally. He was born on 02 April, 1991, birth place being Lawrenceville, Georgia, United States. Quavo is known as a rapper, songwriter and musician.
When Quavo was in seventh grade, he realized his interest in hip hop music and along with his cousin and nephew, he started to make his own music and songs. He dropped out senior year in high school because he wanted to make a career in music. At first, he started to record songs with Takeoff and Offset locally. They used to go to the clubs with their songs and used to bribe DJ with payment of his drink if he agreed to play one of their songs at the club.
Quavo and his fellows named their group as Migos in 2009 and he released a few mixed tapes in 2011 and onward with his band. However he was not much famous before 2013. Quavo actually began his career in 2013 and since then, he has released some outclass music which has topped the charts. It was “Versace” which made him and the group popular. Even Drake remixed that song and added it to his album.
After gaining a lot of fame, Quavo and his mates released another mixtape in 2014 and labeled it as a sequel to his earlier mixtape “No Label”, naming it “No Label II”. This tape too was downloaded in record numbers. After a month of this release, Quavo said that the group had planned to release an album instead of another mixtape. His group made a deal with 300 Entertainment and in June, 2013 they released a single “Fight Night”. The song was a major hit and was included in 25 best songs of that year.
Quavo was arrested due to accusation of possession of marijuana and firearms within the limits of an educational institute at Georgia Southern University in 2015. Later he was pleaded not guilty and was given twelve months of sentence but he paid a fine instead. This controversy caused delay in release of his album. The song “One time” was released before rest of the album and it got some good reviews. That album included guest collaborations with rap stars such as Chris Brown and Young Thug. During an interview following the success of his first album, he hinted about a second album that his crew had begun working on. Later, “Back to the Bandon” was released.
On the 18th of January, he also released another mixtape “Young Rich Niggas 2”. His second album “Culture” was released on 27th January 2017. The album has 13 tracks and has got lots of appreciation from music world. It has won top position on almost all music charts worldwide.
Talking about his awards and nominations, he and his band has been nominated for the “BET Hip Hop Awards” thrice. In 2014, he was nominated for “Rookie of the Year”, “Best Club Banger” for the song Fight Night, and “Best Mixtape” for No Label II. In 2015, he was also nominated at the “BET Awards” in the category of “Best Group”. Unfortunately, he and his band are unable to bag any award yet.
All group members made already solo appearance on other rapper tracks, so did Quavo. However in the last month the number of Quavo only featured increased. His image in the public changed from a group member to a great musician. Quavo is widely respected as a contributor of incredible hooks and rhymes like he did on 2 Chainz‘s Good Drank. It’s seems like he is in the phase of preparing own music projects along with Migos project. His statement made in the interview with Ebro on HOT 97 well describe his state of mind of going solo: “We just happy to be on each other songs”.
