Tauheed Epps, better known by his media name 2 Chainz is one of the most famous hip hop Artists in the United States. He achieved the status after releasing a string of hit singles that include Fed Watching after reinventing and rebranding himself. 2 Chainz who was formerly known as Tity Boi was born on 22, September 1977, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Epps was a top basketball player during his childhood years at North Clayton High School. He reportedly graduated as the second best in his class in high school. But in spite of his excellent grades, 2 Chainz had some troubles in school. He joined the wrong crowd and trafficked marijuana thus leading to his arrest by the state police. This was over a felony charge for cocaine possession when he was just 15 years of age.
This setback during his teenage years didn’t stop him from heading to Alabama State University on a sport’s scholarship. While studying at Alabama State University 2 Chainz was a regular team player with University’s basketball team. In spite of several reports that the rapper graduated with a 4.0 GPA, he only attended College for one session but eventually returned to earn his degree years later.
Playaz Circle & Solo Career
2 Chainz started to make waves in the hip-hop scene as one-half of the hip-hop group, Playaz Circle. Who were signed by Ludacris to his Disturbing The Peace record label. The team announced their entry with the single, Dufflebag boy featuring Lil Wayne.
After staying under the radar for a while, 2 Chainz split from his partner and signed a solo deal with Def Jam Records. Where he released his solo debut album Based on a T.R.U. Story, to a warm reception with three top singles “No Lie, ” “Birthday Song,” and “I’m Different” all of which achieved favorable positions on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The singles and the album itself were certified Gold by the RIAA. He followed this success up with the release of another highly successful sophomore album, B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time, on September 11, 2013. Which had one of his biggest hits “Feds Watching.”
2 Chainz has become one of the most sought-after hip-hop artists. When it comes to collaborations he allegedly charges $100,000 per verse with the exception of royalties.
During Epps time in the hip hop industry he has collaborated with a host of rap artist’s including the likes of Cam’ron, The Game, TI, Nelly, Pusha T, Travis Porter, B.o.B., Lil Wayne, Swizz Beatz, Sean Kingston, Juicy J, Nicki Minaj, Gucci Mane, Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill, Wiz Khalifa Robin Thicke, Young Buck, Kanye West, Jeezy, Beyonce, J. Cole, Chrisette Michelle, The-Dream, E-40, Rocko, DJ Khaled, French Montana, Rick Ross, Ace Hood, Meek Mill, Big Sean, Timbaland, and Fall Out Boy to name a few. He has featured in well over 200 songs since he got mainstream appeal.
Epps is reportedly worth about 10 million dollars after earning well over one million USD each for his efforts via his two solo albums. He charges more than $50,000 per show. Epps is also actively involved in charity events across the United States having donated heavily to Flint in a move to ease their water crisis. He is father to two lovely daughters named Heaven and Harmony. As at October 14, 2015, he welcomed his third child, and son named Halo.
Epps has also had his own fair share of legal issues as he was arrested on the 14th of February on his way to a concert for marijuana possession. He was released after he was cited. This issue was followed up by another, when Epps was arrested at LAX airport for concealing a controlled substance. The substance was later reported to be promethazine and marijuana. He was charged with narcotics possession and released after from custody after posting a $10,000 bail.
2 Chainz on Trump
2 Chainz has been very vocal against the current United States President, Donald Trump. He slammed Trump after receiving an invitation by the presidential team to perform at the inauguration ceremony. Epps is currently signed to Kanye West’s Good Music label and was heavily involved in their joint album, Cruel Summer.
Business ventures & Awards
Epps has also invested in a number of business ventures. He runs a clothing line with his CEO millionaires known as the Create Every Opportunity hoodie collection and dabbing sweaters.
He has received a highly impressive five BET awards throughout his illustrious career in the hip hop scene. This includes the award for best collaboration of the year for his efforts in Fuckin Problems featuring artist’s like Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Asap Rocky.
Epps has also received two Soul Train awards for his efforts in Mercy and No Lie featuring Drake. He is a regular feature at the NBA all stars game and supports the Falcons during the latest Super Bowl. Epps lost the bet he placed on that match.
Label The Real University
January 6, 2015, Epps revealed that he was starting his independent record label called “The Real University.” The announcement also made public knowledge that his frequent collaborators Skooly and Cap.1 were signed to the label. Additionally, he signed former Young Money rapper Short Dawg. Along with the announcement, Epps and his partners also revealed they would be releasing their mixtape TRU Jack City January 27, 2015.
